Joylyn Rushing, Concerto Competition winner

Miss Rushing is the winner of the UCA Student Concerto Competition, and will be performing with the CSO at the From the New World concert, Feb. 16. We can’t wait to share the stage with such talent!

Hailed by OperaWire as a “powerful stage presence” with “real star potential,” Joylýn Rushing completed her undergraduate degree at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama where she sang with Opera Birmingham and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. Miss Rushing has also performed with Opera in the Ozarks, Opera in the Rock, and Operafestival di Roma. Her roles include Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Lucy in The Telephone, Parasha in Stravinsky’s Mavra, Ginger Taylor in Liam Wade’s Part of the Act, and Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance. Winner of the Concerto-Aria Competition at Samford, 3rd place in NATS Nationals, and winner of multiple vocal scholarships, Miss Rushing is currently attending the University of Central Arkansas where she is studying for her master’s degree in voice performance with Robert Holden.
