Remembering Juan Salamanca

We remember former student and bassist, Juan Camilo Salamanca Serrano, who passed away in a car accident a few months ago in Taiwan. Salamanca, originally from Bogota, Colombia, had earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance from UCA in the Spring of 2018. At the time of his passing, he was teaching English in Taiwan and had just recently welcomed his new child Girasol Salamanca Cheng, with his wife, Chiao Yuan Cheng.

Juan was an extremely talented musician, dedicated student, and loyal friend to all those who knew him. Juan had to overcome incredible odds to come to the United States where he obtained his education and supported himself throughout his studies. Juan was a former member of the Conway Symphony Orchestra, where he was the Principal Bassist, and also the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, where he played regularly in the bass section. Juan will be remembered for his smile and laughter, and of course his unfettering passion for music.

You can make a donation to support his wife, Chiao, and child, Girasol, throughout this difficult time. A reminder of the family they have back in Arkansas that is steadfast in supporting them. Any and all donations are welcome.
